Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

The Scripture instructs us to focus on the things of heaven. However, our knowledge of heaven is limited because we aren’t very familiar with it, nor have we been there. 2 Corinthians 4:18 again instructs us to fix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. We may not know what the unseen is, but here we have a revelation that what is unseen is eternal. Therefore, it is worth focusing on unseen things.

But how do we fix our eyes on what is not seen? The answer is in 1 Corinthians 2:16 that we have the mind of Christ. Hence, we train our mind not to align with the thinking of the natural mind, but with the mind of our supernatural God. We look at life from God’s perspective and seek what he desires for our lives. Our desire for worldly pleasures and leisure activities should not overpower our desire for God and His ways. Setting our minds on things above provides an antidote for attraction to the things around us, sensuality and empty religiosity. Therefore, our lifestyle should reflect what our mind is focused on.

Today, let’s focus on the things above. The one thing we know from above is God’s goodness and His love for us. So let’s focus on His goodness, mercy and grace. Let’s filter our minds from the things of this world that separate us from the things above.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for reminding us to set our minds on things above. Forgive us for chasing worldly things. Give us the strength to pursue you and your ways, in Jesus name- Amen.
