Jesus is the son of God, and we have explored this further in my blog post, “Jesus- The Son of God“, implying His deity. In this blog, we will explore another important aspect of His nature- Jesus’ humanity.
Where I live, in Australia, Jesus is primarily viewed through the lens of Christmas. This provides a good starting point for unravelling His humanity. According to Matthew 1 and Luke 2, Jesus was born of a virgin. Matthew 1:23 declares, “They will call him Immanuel,” (which means “God with us”). Jesus came to walk among us and live a sinless life so that He could redeem us from our sins.
Unlike every other human being descended from Adam, He was conceived supernaturally and was free from the sinful nature passed down to humanity. Jesus was fully human because he was born of a woman, yet He was also fully divine because He is the Son of God. Jesus is both fully human and fully divine.
He experienced hunger (Matthew 4:2), weariness (John 4:6), sorrow (John 11: 35) and anguish in Gethsemane (Luke 22:44) yet remained without sin. Hebrews 4:15-16 reminds us that because Jesus lived as a man, He fully understands our experiences here on earth and shows compassion for our weaknesses.
Yet, because he is fully God, He also has the power and authority to deliver us from sin. According to Colossians 2:13-15, through His death and resurrection, we become alive and triumph over sin and its power.
Keypoint 1- Jesus is the Messiah
He is the anointed one. Many expected Him to arrive as a conquering King riding a war horse or commanding an army.
Instead, he fulfilled the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9 by entering Jerusalem humbly on a donkey’s colt. He came not to conquer nations but to suffer, be rejected, die for our sins and rise again. The conquering King came as the suffering servant.
Keypoint 2- Jesus is a teacher
According to Matthew 7:29, He taught with authority, unlike the teachers of the law. His authority came from who He is. As John 1:1 reveals, Jesus is the eternal Word. He spoke with confidence and truth because he is the source of truth itself.
Keypoint 3- Jesus is the healer
Throughout the Gospels, we see Him healing the sick, restoring sight to the blind, cleansing lepers and bringing hope to the broken. His miracles revealed both His compassion and divine power.
Keypoint 4- Jesus is the forgiver of sins
He paid the penalty for our sins through His sacrifice on the cross. The guilt and shame caused by sin are removed and replaced with Christ’s righteousness. In Christ, we receive the ULTIMATE PARDON.
Keypoint 5- Jesus is the gate
Jesus said in John 10:9, “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out and find pasture.” Jesus is the gateway to salvation and to an abundant life filled with peace, joy, and love.
Keypoint 6- Jesus is the way, the truth and the life
Through Him, we are reconciled to Abba Father. His way is perfect, and His word is flawless (Psalms 18:30). In Him we find true and abundant life. As Jesus said in John 10:10, “I come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.”
Keypoint 7- Jesus is the Vine
In John 15:5, Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are the branches.” A branch cannot survive on its own. Likewise, we must remain connected to Jesus. Our spiritual nourishment, strength and growth come from Him alone.
Keypoint 8- Jesus is the light of the world
In John 8:12, Jesus declares, “I am the light of the world.” Darkness leads to death, confusion and separation from God, but Jesus dispels darkness and leads us into the light of life.
Jesus walked this earth in human flesh, experienced pain, sorrow, temptation, and suffering, and understands our struggles. He is now seated at the right hand of the Father in the heavenly places, interceding for us and inviting us into a relationship with Him.

Lord, we thank you for who you are—the Son of God who became the Son of Man. Thank You for coming to earth, living among us, and experiencing life as we do, yet without sin. Thank You for Your sacrifice on the cross and for the salvation we have through You. Help us to remain connected to You, our Vine, and to walk in Your light each day. We praise You as our Saviour, King, Teacher, Healer, and Lord. In Jesus name, Amen.
