Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
Matthew 7: 17 [NIV]
Today’s scripture is both a promise and a warning. Let’s first look at it as a promise. When we abide in the Word of God and obey the guidance of the Holy Spirit, then we are on the narrow path. The work we do for the Lord brings Him glory as it is the fruit of the Spirit. Just as the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit worked in communion to accomplish the will of God on the cross, it is important that we do the work of God according to the will of God, keeping in line with the guidance and instructions of the Word and the Holy Spirit. Then the fruit of our work is good.
However, if we go ahead of God or do His work in our own terms, then the fruit is not good. We are just false prophets doing God’s work for our own success and progress. Sadly, many fall into the trap of thinking that they are serving God, reaping bad fruit or no fruit at all. My child, it is important for us to grow spiritually first before we bear fruit for God.
Today’s promise encourages us, knowing that we have waited this long and will now bear good fruit for the glory of God. Be cheerful that God will bless the work of our hands for His glory. Whether you are in a corporate job, a student, or a homemaker, our productivity should reflect God’s hand in our work, edifying us and others around us. I pray and declare that our fruit is good, bringing glory to God!
Let’s Pray:
Dear Lord, thank you for the promise today. By your grace and mercy, we want to bear good fruit for you. This is our desire to be good stewards and to glorify your name. May you bless the fruit we bear that we reap a harvest a hundredfold this new season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
