Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Matthew 5:6 [NIV]
Blessings are something everyone longs for. They remind us of rewards, gifts, favour, and God’s goodness. Many people measure blessings by material possessions, worldly success, or personal achievements. However, for Christians, blessings carry a far deeper meaning and purpose.
True blessing is found not in earthly possessions but in God’s grace, His peace, and His abiding presence. The greatest blessing we can ever receive is the presence of God Himself. There is no blessing that surpasses the privilege of walking in close fellowship with Him.
Today’s scripture is calling us to hunger and thirst for righteousness. Our deepest longing should not be for earthly things but for righteousness. Righteousness is being in right standing with God. Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, we have been justified and made righteous by His precious blood. Therefore, we should thirst and hunger to walk in the righteousness that Jesus purchased for us by His sacrifice.
Jesus promises that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled. This filling is God’s gracious work in our lives as He pours out a greater measure of His Holy Spirit, strengthening, transforming, and empowering us to live holy lives in a fallen world. As we seek Him above all else, He satisfies the deepest longings of our hearts and redirects our focus from earthly pursuits to eternal realities.
My child, blessed are you as you continue to hunger and thirst for God. May your desire for Him grow stronger each day, and may you experience the fullness of His presence, His peace, and His transforming power.
Let’s Pray:
Dear Lord, we thirst and hunger for you. You are our desire, and your righteousness is what we seek. May you fill us afresh with a greater measure of your Holy Spirit as we continue to pursue you. May you satisfy our souls as we thirst and hunger for you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
