“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
Psalms 27:14 [NIV]
Faith is not just believing in the impossible. It also requires waiting. God’s ways are not always our ways, nor do His methods reflect worldly methods. Today’s verse instructs us to wait for the Lord. Jesus always waited on God the Father when He walked on the earth. He partnered with God the Father and obeyed His will, timing and His way. As Christians, we ought to be Christ-like. Just like Jesus obeyed His Father, we ought to obey His word. We must imitate Jesus and walk in patience despite the delays.
Therefore, to wait upon the Lord takes strength and a good heart. Strength represents self- control. Either we take matters into our own hands, or we follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance and wait on the Lord. Often, we misunderstand strength as taking control over matters and making them happen by our pride, using our network and connections. However, when we wait upon God, it pleases Him because we are valuing His timing and His ways.
Secondly, the heart represents our relationship with God. If we love God, then we have to obey Him. There is no point in saying that we love our spouses and hurt each other. Likewise, we have to control our emotions and obey God, waiting in patience.
Let’s Pray:
Dear Lord, we thank you for instructing us to wait. Give us strength and a good heart to overcome our impatience and make things happen in our own timing. We trust you, Lord, and wait for your timing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
